Are you winning? I know this can be a meme (pronounced ‘meem’ Mom, in case you are reading this) but it is a question I have been asking myself for the past 9 days since I started listening to an audio book entitled ‘100 Wins in 100 Days” by Dr. Aziz. This is the third book I have listened to by this author and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to improve their mindset and emotional health for the long term. It is a truly fascinating listen/read and it is one of those books that when you are reading it, you are actually thinking..”wow, this book was specifically written for me…Dr. Aziz is actually talking about me! But wait, he doesn’t even know me! So weird..”
Won’t provide a synopsis of the book but one of the many themes of the book is that through daily 30 second tracking of wins and gratitude over a 100 days, you can transform your life for the better – your perception of events will change and you will eventually see ‘wins’ in your ‘losses’ as well. How cool is that?
Dr. Aziz understands human nature and knows that we are not infallible…we all suffer from negative thoughts and emotions and he clearly states that he is no different from this affliction. However, he walks you through processes and easy games that will help you see that life is full of promise and you will eventually recognise that life is a gift that should be cherished. We need to remind ourselves of this incessantly!
I can hear you now…’Tell me more, Al…is that it? ” Well, not exactly but I want to just whet your appetite for more of his work because I find it so logical and pragmatic. For realz. I find that it has resonated with me and I am already noticing changes with my mental state. I am no longer a ‘Negative Ned” (feel free to insert Nancy here as well if you wish and heaven help us if both Nancy and Ned are ever in the same room together…egads!”) I am seeing things differently without the help of psychodelic drugs. (Feel free to sing a verse of the Beatle’s ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ here too.)
If I can leave you with one final thought, we are all winning more than we think we are. We are just not giving ourselves credit according to the author. Amen. Hallelujah! Sing (probably write them down instead) your praises, boost your confidence, and declutter your amygdala, hypothalamus, and hippocampus. (Sorry to go all limbic system on you there). If you are able to do this, low and behold, you too will discover a reawakening…and I’m not talking about getting up from that hour nap you just had on a Saturday afternoon. Not that I would know anything about that.
As always, thanks for checking out this post – I appreciate you and by the way, this is one of my wins for the day!
Al
